Automation Engineer with 5+yrs experience in the design & programming of automation systems
The Role:
Reporting to the Engineering Team Manager, your primary role will be to design automation systems for integration into plant, machinery and equipment for our customers. You will enjoy working with a multidisciplinary team where initiative and commitment are key; and thrive in an environment where meeting and exceeding customer requirements is the norm.
Key Responsibilities:
- You will develop the concepts for new automation and machinery or the upgrade and refurbishment of existing assets,
- Define automation architectures and select the automation and control platform that best meets customer and project needs.
- Design and program PLC based systems, SCADA and HMIs. Effectively, these systems will be integrated with other plant or machine elements including Safety Devices, PLC based control systems, Motion Control Systems, Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems, Machine and Process Safeguarding elements etc.
- Design the safety related control system part of the automation and machinery solutions for our customers, as safe automation is one of our core businesses.
- Prepare systems at the facilities for acceptance testing and qualification.
- Install and commission the systems at the facilities for acceptance testing and qualification.
- Provide the necessary documentation to our customers for operation, maintenance and qualification of our systems.
- Develop as a safety automation engineer, becoming fluent in European standards and legislation related to safe automation systems.
- Develop the skills and knowledge to enable you to provide design consultancy to multinational organisations both nationally and internationally.
- Lead key automation project related to process safety and SIL rated safety instrumented systems.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of all engineering projects and the ongoing success of our business.
Requirements:
- Have 5+ years experience in the design and programming of automation systems – essential.
- Experience in commissioning, troubleshooting and programming; and contributing to Electrical and Mechanical installation and commissioning teams.
- Have a relevant degree in engineering, preferably electrical, industrial or control systems.
- Are familiar with all major machine elements including: Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Motion Control, and Electrical Control. Such experience may include installation, commissioning and down time management. – ideally.
- Have previous experience in safety related control systems will be a distinct advantage
- Have knowledge of international standards relating to automation and control including IEC 61508. IEC 61511, IEC 62061 and ISO 13849 - a distinct advantage
- Have a proven track record with Siemens SCADA systems and in particular WIN CC Software, Simatic Thin Clients and Client Server Platforms
- You will be customer focussed, self motivated, and take a logical and systematic approach to problem solving;
- Have the ability to prioritise the urgency of multiple requests and then take charge of these to meet deadlines;
- You will fully understand the concepts of safe automation,
- Have excellent mathematical and problem solving skills
- Are open to the adoption of new processes for automation and are willing to undertake professional training in this domain
- Full clean driver's license and a car is essential
