Creative Material Specialist - consumer electronics - Helsinki, Finland.

In this role you will promote the brand by driving material-led design for dedicated areas of the portfolio. Focus is on creatively exploring Material Technology design opportunities within Design and with key external partners.  Objectives linked to design intent and progressive material direction (Medium Term/Long Term).  Scoping and exploring the objectives and briefs of R&D/supplier projects that deliver to Design's material technology requirements. Clear integration of design context & deep awareness of the competitor landscape. Partners with Industrial Design. Initiates, drives and Leads portfolio level Material Technology projects. 
 
Main Responsibility Area:
In this role you will have specialist knowledge in the area of Material Technology Design and Manufacture.  Lead and drive Material Technology Projects and approaches that enable high quality and well-crafted products. Through specialist knowledge, drive Design For Manufacture and Design For Assembly approach. 

Understand the implications of cost / Bill Of Materials in product concepting, planning and delivery.  Proactively act to understand portfolio needs and offer consultancy even when not asked.

Understand role of design within product development process and is able to work effectively. Acts as a source of expertise to others and contributes to discussion in own area.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

Typically 6-9 years relevant experience. Key contributor, recognised specialist.
Passion for Colour and Material Technology design.

Understands technical challenges, can work cross-discipline and is confident to challenge preconceptions. Collaborating and integrating with key teams to deliver material technology projects and integrate Design at portfolio and technology planning stage (within a dedicated area of portfolio).  Leads by example through creative exploration and project development. Empowers with knowledge of material technologies and material-led design.

For this role, our client seeks an Industrial designer who has a material technology background, i.e. someone who has worked on materials such as plastics and metals, and understands the design opportunities/restrictions and manufacturing methods. Someone that can integrate within design, driving a material led design approach, building competence within design etc.
